Trudy Montgomery was born in Bristol, England in 1970 and has studied in the UK, France and USA. Following a degree in political science she lived and worked in California from 1999 working in technology companies in Silicon Valley and supplementing her passion for art history, painting and drawing with tutors from Berkeley, San Francisco Art Institute, and in Los Angeles from Otis School of Art & Design. She notes the UK's Robin Child as her most influential teacher.
After moving into the art world as an art advisor in 2005, Trudy began painting full time in 2009 and has exhibited her work in galleries in London, Los Angeles and Berlin. She returned to the UK in late 2012 and works from her studio near Bath.
Trudy's tendency towards enormous scale and pure, bold colour is heavily influenced by the light and space of California, where she lived for 14 years. She draws inspiration from her travels, both inner and outer, and sees her work as inner landscapes. Working from a meditative state of action, she uses the expressive possibilities of paint to convey what is, so often, inaccessible in words. Joyful and uplifting, her paintings portray an active vitality and the freedom of spirit.
